FPT STRENGTHENS NATURAL GAS LEADERSHIP WITH FIRST GOLDEN DRAGON BUS DELIVERY TO SERBIAN PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

Xiamen Golden Dragon Bus Co., Ltd. has recently delivered a first batch of buses equipped with FPT’s CURSOR 9 Euro VI Natural Gas engines to the public transportation board of the city of Kragujevac, in Serbia. This delivery confirms FPT’s leadership in the Natural Gas bus segment in Europe, built on 20 years of experience with this technology that has become the market standard for the segment.

The delivery marks the start of a four-year program that will see a total of 200 vehicles delivered, which will enhance the local public transportation service capacity, as well as supporting the local goal of achieving low-carbon transportation. The partnership with Golden Dragon dates back to 2014, and since its establishment FPT has provided around 3,000 engines – of which 600 Natural Gas units – that equips inter-city vehicles, buses, and luxury coaches running all around the world. This long-standing collaboration is a clear testament to the continued trust that Golden Dragon places in FPT’s technology, reliability, and long-term support.

As the most powerful natural gas engine on the market, the CURSOR 9 Euro VI Natural Gas delivers top-of-class performance, offering the same torque and therefore the same operational capability as diesel, while ensuring lower noise levels and excellent fuel efficiency thanks to its multipoint injection and stoichiometric combustion. Compatible with CNG, LNG, and biomethane, it reduces pollutants and cuts CO emissions, supporting more sustainable passenger transport. Its high reliability, long service life, and ease of maintenance, including oil-change intervals of up to 40,000 km for city bus applications, make it the preferred choice for urban and long-distance missions, and it consistently outperforms direct competitors while reducing overall operating costs.

With complex terrain and a typical temperate continental climate characterized by cold winters and hot summers, Serbia demands extremely high reliability and stability from public transportation. The batch of buses delivered to the city of Kragujevac can operate stably in both extreme cold and heat, and can easily handle the extreme climatic conditions of areas with an altitude of up to 2,000 meters. Across a wide range of temperatures, with complex mountainous road conditions, and in high-altitude environments, the CURSOR 9 engine not only demonstrates strong adaptability, but also maintains low emissions and high reliability, perfectly meeting the market’s high standards and strict requirements for on-road engines, offering robust power delivery for the continuous operation of the vehicles.

Eugenia Valente, Vice President of FPT Asia & ANZ, commented: “FPT is driving decarbonization and helping meet ambitious environmental goals. Our strong partnership with Golden Dragon continues our journey to support the deployment of natural gas engines, delivering powerful and sustainable transport solutions. This underscores our commitment to environmental responsibility, and reflects our innovative, action-oriented approach as a global leader in powertrain technologies.”
