OUR SUSTAINABLE COMPANY
Our strategy for sustainable development is based on scientific research, technological innovation and appropriate management of all social and ethical issues that may impact our Company and local communities. As part of CNH Industrial, FPT Industrial Sustainability Plan is included in the Sustainability report of the Group. The Plan is annually updated to report the progress of existing projects and establish new targets.
HOW WE GET THINGS DONE
Our Sustainability Plan has set environmental targets throughout the entire organization:
AIR EMISSIONS: Continuous monitoring and abatment of emissions that may result from manufacturing or from combustion of fossil fuels.
ENERGY MANAGEMENT: Reduction of total energy consumption through the efficiency optimization of plants and processes.
WATER MANAGEMENT: Constant efforts in reducing total water consumption and in keeping a high quality of discharged water.
WASTE MANAGEMENT: Reduction in the amount of generated waste and increase of recovery and reuse rates.
Starting 2017, as FPT Industrial we will apply the Life Cycle Environment Management System to assess our impact in all areas, and set new projects in motion for long-term sustainability.
FPT Industrial adopts the World Class Manufacturing program, that encompasses all processes (emission management, maintenance, logistics, quality…) with the objective of constantly improving safety, working conditions, performance, efficiency and flexibility.
The ultimate aim of WCM is reduce to zero inefficiencies, defects, waste and accidents, and this objective is pursued through people involvement and motivation.

Integration of manufacturing plants into the local habitat is part of our responsible approach.
FPT Industrial is committed to contribute in the variety of natural species protection, and applies the methodology of Biodiversity Value Index, studied in cooperation with Science, Life and Biology department of the “Università degli Studi” in Turin.
We have so far completed the application of the BVI methodology in our Bourbon Lancy plant (France), demonstrating a low level of anthropic pressure and an elevated biodiversity index.

OUR VALUE CHAIN
Generating long-term stakeholder value means managing the value chain “from cradle to gate”, also taking into account the product lifecycle and its environmental impact.
We focused our approach on three patterns:
- Maximizing energy efficiency
- Optimizing the environmental performance of conventional engines
- Increasing the use of alternative fuels
Maximizing energy efficiency means both providing end-user fuel savings and reducing the carbon footprint of our products.
A carbon footprint project has been included in the sustainability plan within FPT Industrial responsibility.
The carbon footprint project is aimed to identify improvement to the product from concept to design, including machining, assembling, manufacturing process, maintenance, remanufacturing, recycle and dismission.
FPT Industrial started the project with the Life Cycle Assessment of F1C engine (that includes 4 phases: goal and scope definition, Life Cycle Inventory, Life Cycle Impact Assessment and Life Cycle Interpretation) based on ISO 14040, ISO 14044 and ISO/TS 14067 standards.
We succeeded in transforming emission legislation constraints into a competitive advantage for our powertrains. By exploiting the lightness, compactness, efficiency and reliability of our SCR-only solutions, we have managed to offer our Customers better performance and lower operating costs.
As FPT Industrial, we are at the leading edge of technology in the evaluation, testing, and promotion of alternative fuels. We have just launched the most performing CNG truck engine ever, and this year we will introduce our first products running on Hydro-treated Vegetable Oil (a second-generation renewable biofuel).
