FPT INDUSTRIAL POWER ON RAIL FOR CUTTING-EDGE RAIL GRINDING

Where there are challenging rail applications, there is FPT Industrial power. FPT Industrial is on track with Mecno Service, powering their cutting-edge tangential rail grinders in operation in China with high-performance, low-maintenance and fuel-efficient NEF engines.

 

In October, two FPT N67 TE2F engines were in action, continuously day and night round the clock, on the Chongqing high speed circular railway line, grinding 367 km of track and 80 turnouts in an impressive 12 days allowing the opening of the line on time.

 

Currently they are busy grinding 50 km of line and turnouts in LeShan for the Chengdu Railway Bureau keeping the rail infrastructure up to speed.

 

But these engines won’t stop there since more projects are in the pipeline for these very specialized machines, including underground metro lines, where heat temperature in tunnels make the task even more demanding and where these engines have been proven to provide continuity of operation during the short 4-hour of permissible maintenance time thus maximizing rail grinding productivity in metro environments.

 

Mecno Service chose The FPT N67 TE2F, which is an intercooled turbocharged, liquid cooled, 6.7 litre displacement engine boasting an impressive 165 kW from a compact design of 1.68m³ and a weight of 630 kg.

 

The high-power density and short load response of these engines makes them ideal for rail grinding application where constant power to the grinding motors and torque delivery to the tractions is key for a precise and smooth re-profiling of the rail head.

 

Optimized combustion chambers, high-pressure injection system reduce oil dilution and ensured high fuel consumption efficiency. Intervals of up to 600 hours of oil and filter replacement minimize machine downtime.

 

The compactness of the FPT N67 TE2F allows the horizontal positioning of the engine and alternator behind the rail grinder cabins freeing valuable space on the grinding modules for added grinding capacity and making possible the containerization of the entire machine.

 

This provides one of the greatest advantages to this type of machines for it gives clients the possibility to win more projects in different part of China as the machine can be easily moved from site not only by rail but also by road transport, if required.
