SUSTAINABILITY FOR THE WIN! WITH THE ESSENTIAL CONTRIBUTION OF FPT INDUSTRIAL, THE H2HAUL PROJECT WINS THE FIRST EDITION OF THE WORLD HYDROGEN AWARDS
Big trucks for long-range heavy transport that travel Europe far and wide, quietly and with zero emissions. It almost seems like Utopia, but instead it is a reality that will soon be clear to all those who travel the roads and freeways of the Old Country. It's called H2HAUL and it is the project with which FPT Industrial, along with IVECO and 13 other European partners, promotes, tests and develops hydrogen fuel cell technology for the long-range transport sector. It is a project that already has 16 zero-emissions heavy vehicles conducting demonstrative tests in 4 European locations which can count on hydrogen fueling stations that are already open or about to open in Switzerland and France. Precisely for its clear and concrete results, the project has won the first edition of the international World Hydrogen Awards.
Co-financed by FCH JU ( Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking), a unique example of public-private partnership between the European Commission, the hydrogen fuel cell industrial sectors (represented by Hydrogen Europe) and the scientific research community (Hydrogen Europe Research), the H2HAUL is key to the European Union's strategies aimed at reducing emissions in the transport sector and achieving complete decarbonization in the sector by 2050.
FPT Industrial's operations, with the collaboration of IVECO and another OEM partner, focus on the design, production and testing of hydrogen fuel cells on electric drive rigid and articulated heavy trucks up to 44 tons. The end goal is to create hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles, not only with performance and payloads fully comparable to diesel vehicles, but also 70% lighter than battery powered vehicles and six times quicker to refuel. And as early as 2022, we'll see a significant number of them traveling European roads.
