THE MOST SUSTAINABLE YEAR EVER! FPT INDUSTRIAL AND FONTANAFREDDA TOGETHER FOR HIGH QUALITY, ZERO-EMISSIONS VITICULTURE

Reducing polluting emissions in particularly prestigious and delicate working environments is certainly not as easy as just drinking a glass of water. However, if we're talking about wine, then we're already well on the way. In fact, FPT Industrial, the largest producer of low environmental impact engines in the world, and Fontanafredda, a historic Wine-making Brand founded in 1858 by the first king of Italy and promoter of the “Green Renaissance”, have joined forces to create a three-year partnership dedicated to a highly prestigious viticulture project with zero environmental impact.
The partnership, presented on 19 February in a joint digital press conference, revolves around the supply of two New Holland TK Methane Power vineyard crawler tractors, the first delivered in March and the second in June, with the FPT Industrial F28 NG engine, awarded as “2020 Engine of the year”, but powered by bio-methane: therefore with a carbon footprint of zero. The two tractors will be put to work in the La Rosa cru Nebbiolo for Barolo grape cultivation area within the Fontanafredda farm in Serralunga d’Alba (CN), where the engines will have the chance to prove their worth on hilly terrain.
In fact, the bio-methane F28 engine that powers the New Holland TK Methane Power vineyard crawler tractor prototype destined for the Fontanafredda farm has a 75HP capacity with a maximum torque of 330Nm. This means that it can guarantee entirely safe performance directly comparable with that of the Diesel model, even on the steepest hills and slippery terrain that characterizes the most prestigious vineyards in the Langhe area.
Conceived as a multi-mission design and to be powered by diesel, natural gas and with a hybrid system, the FPT Industrial F28 engine was created to be compact, productive and environmentally friendly. In fact, it is capable of meeting all the power, performance and low environmental impact requirements in applications like orchard and vineyard tractors, where small size, and therefore limited bulk, are essential prerequisites.
But let's get back to the partnership agreement. The common goal of FPT Industrial and Fontanafredda is to achieve the first harvest of 2021 and to celebrate the first 100% sustainable production year of Barolo in 2025.
After being the ‘heart’ of the vehicles named Sustainable Tractor of the Year and Sustainable Truck of the Year”, FPT Industrial CEO Annalisa Stupenengo declares, “getting to grips with the needs of the prestigious, delicate, sustainable top-quality wine-growing sector is a very exciting challenge for us. In fact, the partnership with Fontanafredda will enable us to again demonstrate our full support for the European Union as it guides the green transition. Our biomethane engines are as efficient and high-performing as diesels, and this renewable, sustainable fuel is the real, immediately available alternative for eliminating emissions from agricultural vehicles.
