FPT INDUSTRIAL UNVEILS THE CURSOR 13 NATURAL GAS

On the occasion of its first Tech Day, FPT Industrial presented its most powerful Natural Gas engine: the Cursor 13 Natural Gas (NG). Specially developed for long-haul missions, the Cursor 13 NG delivers, in fact, power up to 460 hp @ 1,900 rpm and torque up to 2,000 Nm @ 1,100 rpm, offering up to 15% more power and 18% more torque than FPT Industrial's Cursor 9 NG engine.
The Cursor 13 Natural Gas, as well as other FPT Industrial NG engines, can run on CNG, LNG and bio-methane, thus leading to a reduction of CO2 emission levels near zero. Bio-methane has even another benefit within itself: it can be generated from agricultural and urban waste, sewage and industrial food waste, thus dramatically reducing both the dependency on fossil fuels and the need to transport energy and the related CO2 emissions.
The Cursor 13 Natural Gas uses FPT Industrial patented stoichiometric technology, resulting in a viable and cost-efficient solution available now to meet Euro VI Step C emission limits. The Cursor 13 NG is, in fact, provided with an easy-to-install 3 way catalyst with no-EGR, no-SCR and no-DPF: therefore the emission level is 9% less compared to Diesel and can reach near zero when using bio-methane. The PM reduction, instead, is 98% and NOx emissions are 48%lower when compared to Euro VI compliant Diesel engines. The engine combustion cycle brings benefits as well: it is smooth and quiet, thus decreasing noise pollution and vehicle noise pollution operations to less than 71 dB.
The engine has been developed to meet high demands on performance and low operating costs: the EGR free combustion allows fuel cost savings up to 30%-40% compared to the Cursor 460 hp Diesel powered engine. Durability and reliability are also ensured, while the entire engine is protected by two patents: FPT Industrial’s improved knocking prevention – whose patent protection has been presented with Eldor Corporation and is still in progress – which increases the performance, enables the widest fuel compatibility and protects the engine and the 3-way catalyst from misfiring; and the reactive air-flow control management system, a new stoichiometric ratio control logic applied during gearshifts.
