Original is better

By using the energy from the exhaust gas to compress the fresh air for combustion the fuel, the turbocharger increases the power of an engine.

A Genuine FPT Turbocharger is a sophisticated component, it can run at up to 360,000 rpm, and with exhaust gas temperatures above 900°C or 750°C (for FPT Diesel engines).
Engine performance directly depends on:

  • High quality of turbo response
  • Optimal fuel/air mix
Genuine FPT Turbochargers are high-tech products, designed, calibrated and tested to meet the very precise performance criteria imposed by FPT engines.
To ensure the optimum performance of your engine, it is important to maintain the original conditions of the Turbocharger system.

As the engine ages, the combination of the VGT and the associated electronic control system will adjust its characteristics to ensure the original performance and emission levels are maintained over the long term:

  • Improved fuel efficiency by up to 5%
  • Improved emissions by supporting the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) process
  • Enables CO2 emission targets to be met
  • Recovers pumping losses
However, if the Turbocharger system is in poor condition, this adjustment cannot take place and fuel consumption will increase.
Genuine FPT turbochargers are highly reliable and offer optimal performance at any stage of engine life.

The Turbocharger is designed to last for the service life of the engine, however monitoring of the whole system is recommended during periodic inspections that should be carried out during every engine service.

Maintenance advices:

  • Ensure good condition of the fuel injection system.
  • Replace with correct engine oil and genuine oil filter at manufacturer's recommendation.
  • Check all connecting hoses for condition, ensuring no splits.
  • Check actuator operation and replace with genuine parts if needed.
  • Check the intercooler and all associated parts; replace with genuine parts when necessary.
  • Replace blow-by filter according to the maintenance schedule.
  • Replace air filter within the maintenance schedule.

Often a defective turbocharger is the consequence of some other engine defect which cannot be solved just by replacing the turbo. To avoid a repeat failure of the new turbocharger, it is important to find out what damaged your old turbo.

Most of the problems with turbocharger systems can be associated with the following causes:

  • Inadequate lubrication
  • Oil contamination
  • Foreign objects
  • Check actuator operation and replace with genuine parts if needed
  • Overspeed and excessive temperature
