The engine brake, operated by hydraulic solenoid valves using pressurized engine oil, restricts the exhaust gas flow leaving the engine, generating high pressure on the pistons. This back pressure, combined with the interruption of fuel injection, creates a torque opposite to the vehicle’s motion, causing it to slow down.
